What a Full Air Duct Cleaning Job Includes

Air duct cleaning is the removal of the dust, pet hair, lint, and grit that collect inside your ductwork and inside the furnace or air handler that moves air through it. Anderson Air Duct Cleaning cleans the duct run from the source, takes every register, return, grille, and boot, and cleans the blower, coil, and housing of the heating or cooling unit. We are a family-owned company based in Centerville, Massachusetts, working on Cape Cod and the South Shore since 1998. Estimates are free, and we do them at your house.

Why It Happens Here

Why Cape Cod ducts get dirty

Ducts on the Cape fill for reasons unrelated to how often you dust. Most of the Valley and much of the Upper Cape still run on oil, and oil furnaces and wood stoves leave soot that settles in the return ducts and comes back grey at the vents. Salt air off the water corrodes the thin galvanized boots and dampers that an inland house never has to deal with. Renovation dust — drywall, joint compound, cedar shake, decking — is one of the most common things we find, because work gets done on the Cape in the shoulder season and nobody closes the registers first. And a lot of homes here run their system almost constantly from October to April, which is a long time to push the same air through the same ducts.

None of that is dangerous. It is the reason a house that was cleaned last spring is dusty again around the vents by June.

What we actually clean, part by part

The Duct run — Supply and Return Cleaned from the source, working toward the unit, so debris leaves the system instead of moving room to room. This is the actual cleaning. Everything below is the visible part.
Registers and Grilles Pulled, cleaned, refitted. The part you judge us by. If these are still dirty the job looks unfinished.
Returns Pulled and cleaned, including floor and ceiling returns. The big openings are where hair and pet fur mat first.
Boots Reached and cleaned — the short sections that feed each vent. Dust settles here before anywhere else, and boots are where a blocked vent hides.
Blower Cleaned — the fan inside the furnace or air handler. Whatever sits on the blower wheel goes into every room on every cycle.
Coil Cleaned. A dust-coated coil recirculates that dust and cuts airflow.
Housing Cleaned — the cabinet the blower sits in. The most-skipped part of a duct clean, because it means opening the unit.

Who we do this for

Buildup in the ducts doesn't announce itself — the system just runs a little longer and a little harder to move the same air. The calls we actually get: year-round homes a few years into oil heat, landlords turning units between tenants, small commercial spaces where the system never gets a break. We inspect first, then clean what the inspection finds — no guessing at the phone.

Year-round homes.

The normal call. A house that has been lived in for a few years, usually on oil, usually dusty around the registers. We clean the full runs, every register and boot, and the unit itself — one visit and one price.

Rentals and second homes.

A house that shuts up for five months accumulates differently from one that runs all winter, and turnover cleaning is the most predictable job we do. If you manage properties, we can work to your changeover days.

Small commercial buildings.

Offices, storefronts, salons, professional suites, and similar single-unit buildings on the Cape. Larger systems, longer runs, and roof access change what a job involves, so these are quoted after we look, same as a house.
